Swept up in the relentless pace of life in the 21st century, today’s shoppers really appreciate the chance to relax, kick back and enjoy a little retail therapy. This quest for wellbeing – and the fact that shoppers who feel comfortable shop for longer and spend more – is something that the ready-to-wear fashion chain JBC has long been aware of. In fact, over the past years, JBC has worked closely with Daikin to provide just the right level of climate control and comfort in all of its stores.
More recently, in its ongoing search to optimise running costs still further, JBC conducted a site trial with Daikin designed to evaluate the potential gains generated by Variable Refrigerant Temperature (VRT) technology. The results of the test were more than conclusive.
“Having a comfortable climate in the shop is crucial for customer satisfaction and retention.”
- Gert Laeveren, JBC
VRT technology put to the test
To obtain an accurate comparison of the running costs and comfort levels of the VRT technology, two identical Sky Air outdoor units were used, each connected to Daikin’s unique Round Flow Cassette system.
One system for the test featured Daikin’s VRT technology, which balances the refrigerant temperature to match the actual load in the room, while the other system did not have the VRT function enabled. To ensure identical operating times and settings to provide an accurate comparison, the two units were connected to the same remote control unit, with the same room temperature, fan speed, airflow rate, etc.
Both Sky Air outdoor units were also connected to a kWh meter to measure their actual power consumption precisely. This data was collected for every minute of the day, from June 2017 to May 2018. The ongoing readings were monitored and reported remotely using the Daikin Cloud Service.
Lower costs, greater comfort
The VRT-enabled unit performed considerably better in terms of energy consumption and comfort, for both visitors to the store and shop staff alike.
From an energy efficiency point of view, the VRT system consumed up to 21% less power in mild conditions, with annual savings recorded at an Impressive 14%. Multiply that figure over the total number of JBC stores and you have an idea of just how much JBC can save on its running costs by using VRT technology – quite apart from keeping customers comfortable while they spend money, and also the benefit for the environment.
Our other cases
To help Crystal Tower maximise its energy efficiency, we planned to combine the power of air-cooled VRV, water-cooled VRV and chillers to deliver an all-in-one climate control solution.
Torre Serenissima | VRV Air Conditioning System Installation
Torre Serenissima had a VRV Air Conditioning System Installation. Daikin equipped with an outdated R-22 refrigerant system, we gave the Torre Serenissima a full upgrade to deliver more energy efficiency and comfort.
The Bloomsbury Hotel | VRV-Q system Installation
The VRVIII Heat Recovery System from Daikin was selected for its supremely low energy consumption and ability to off er massive savings in comparison with similar systems
M&E contractor, Synecore, installed its first ‘invisible’ HVAC system, the Daikin VRV IV i-Series at Leon Restaurant, central London, to overcome tight space restrictions and achieve maximum climate control efficiency.
In its ongoing search to optimise running costs, JBC conducted a site trial with Daikin designed to evaluate the gains generated by Variable Refrigerant Temperature (VRT) technology.
Prezzemolo & Vitale - Palermo
For the new Prezzemolo & Vitale store in the historical centre of Palermo, a system was installed consisting of Daikin Zeas and VRV units.
Pick 'n Pay Panorama Upgrade
The Daikin condensing unit was integrated, via Modbus, to the Eliwell controls supplied by Keystar. This allowed for remote access and monitoring of the plant, giving the owners and the contractors peace of mind.
M&M Music Academy in Cape Town
Together with Coastal Air Consulting and Consultmech engineers, we recently installed two 55kW rooftop package units at M&M Music Academy in Cape Town. We customized the units in order to compress the noise levels of the fan, while still maintaining the necessary size
Taaibosch Daikin Air Conditioners
Daikin supplies Taaibosch Winery in Stellenbosch with highly efficient, reliable and precise air conditioning solutions that provide them with complete temperature control in their cold room and offices.
The New Chiller at Slanghoek Winery
The new chiller, the largest Chinese Inverter Daikin South Africa has delivered to date, was a replacement of the one installed in the 1990s (also by Daikin). This inverter model was selected due to its high efficiency and low power consumption.
Kapama River Lodge
Daikin South Africa had a major project with Kapama Private Game Reserve in Limpopo Province, which spans a large region between the northern Drakensberg mountains and the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa's north-east.
In October 2021, Daikin’s South African team did a major installation for one of the biggest independent furnishing retailers in Western Cape.
Helderberg Nature Reserve
Daikin South Africa recently embarked on a fantastic project for the Helderberg Nature Reserve. In partnership with The Construction Company, NWE Consulting Engineers, and Coldfact Projects.
