Learning in Comfort Every Season: Daikin SA & Learn to Earn Hermanus
Empowering futures, one comfortable classroom at a time.
About Learn to Earn
Learn to Earn (LtE) is a South African skills development and job-readiness organisation that believes in giving people "a hand up, not a hand out." Their work centres on equipping unemployed individuals with the practical skills and personal foundation needed to find — and keep — meaningful work.
Based in Hermanus, LtE offers a wide range of training and development programmes, from life skills coaching to vocational courses, all designed to bridge the gap between unemployment and sustainable employment. Among their flagship initiatives is the Ground UP Barista Academy, which trains entry-level baristas and gives them not just a skill, but a real sense of hope and direction.
LtE also works with the business community, helping companies meet their B-BBEE scorecard requirements through structured skills development programmes. Importantly, they measure their success in lives changed — not temporary assistance, but lasting socioeconomic empowerment.
The Challenge: A Coastal Environment That Demands More
The Challenge: A Coastal Environment That Demands More
Hermanus sits right on the coastline of the Overberg region — a breathtaking setting, but one that presents unique challenges for equipment longevity. Salt-laden sea air accelerates corrosion in standard air conditioning units, shortening lifespan and increasing maintenance costs. For an organisation like LtE, operational resilience matters. Every rand saved on repairs is a rand that can go back into training and empowering more people.
A reliable, comfortable environment is also critical to learner focus and engagement. Hot, uncomfortable classrooms make it harder to absorb new skills and stay motivated. LtE needed a solution that would last, perform, and create the best possible learning environment — without draining their resources.
The Solution: Daikin Sensira with Anti-Corrosion Treatment
Daikin South Africa sponsored a 12 000 BTU Daikin Sensira Inverter (FTXF35 / RXF35) — a unit purpose-built for exactly this kind of environment. Positioned as Daikin's premium entry-level inverter, the Sensira is engineered with serious structural protection against coastal and high-humidity conditions.
Key protective features of the Sensira include:
Blue Fin Coil Treatment — The aluminium heat exchanger fins are coated with a hydrophilic acrylic layer that resists salt air and moisture. These coils have been externally certified by TÜV after more than 3 000 hours of salt spray testing.
Coated Electronics — The printed circuit boards (PCBs) inside the outdoor unit are sealed with a protective film to guard against damp and corrosive air, reducing the risk of unexpected component failure.
Galvanised Base Pan — The outdoor unit chassis uses powder-coated galvanised steel to prevent structural rust from coastal rain or pooling condensation.
In addition to its coastal resilience, the Sensira delivers excellent everyday performance — making it an ideal choice for an active, busy classroom setting.

The Impact: More Than Just Cool Air
Air conditioning in a training facility might seem like a small thing. But for an organisation dedicated to transforming lives, the details matter enormously. A comfortable, focused learning environment can be the difference between a trainee staying engaged and disengaging — between someone completing a course and building a future, or giving up.
For LtE in Hermanus, this sponsorship represents more than a unit on a wall. It is a statement that the organisations invested in South Africa's future believe in creating the right conditions — literally — for people to grow, learn and succeed.
Daikin South Africa is proud to support Learn to Earn's mission and to partner with Enrico Overberg Technoservice in bringing this sponsorship to life on the ground.
