Water Cooled Chillers with Capacity Range up to 1.1 MW

Daikin increases water cooled chiller capacity range up to 1.1MW and high EER > 5.2.
A new EWWD range of high efficiency flooded type, water cooled chillers has been introduced by Daikin Europe N.V. Launched at November’s IKK Exhibition, the cooling only unit with stepless capacity control operates on R-134a refrigerant.
Seven different sizes are planned with capacities ranging from 360kW to 1.1MW and impressive EER values of between 5.2 and 5.35 at full load, rising as high as 8.0 at 50% partload. Chilled water is supplied at between 4 and 16° C with a leaving condenser water temperature of between 30 and 50° C. For process or ice-storage applications chilled water down to -5° C is optional.
A major factor influencing the unit’s high performance capability is its use of the recently introduced Daikin ‘GE’ type stepless controlled, single screw compressor with high efficiency motor, optimised for use with R-134a. Modulating the sliding valve position according to chilled water temperature enables the compressor to closely match capacity requirements resulting in high part load efficiencies and stable chilled water temperatures with better control regulation. Capacity control of the single circuit EWWD unit in fact, is infinitely variable between 25 and 100%.
With its emphasis on energy efficiency and part load performance, the use of single circuit flooded evaporators provides many overall advantages. A performance rating some 30% higher than comparable direct expansion chillers plus qualifying for an ‘A’ class EUROVENT rating stem from computer modelling of the heat exchanger ensuring the availability of optimum refrigerant volume at any given flow rate. Carefully conceived components include flooded shell and tube evaporator fitted with internally and externally enhanced copper tubing. This tubing also features in the shell and tube condenser, along with a special header distribution system and an integral sub cooler section.
Overall electronic control of the chiller is provided by Daikin intelligent adaptive control, complete with LCD touch screen panel offering detailed information on and precise regulation of all operating parameters. Temperature control to within +/- 0.5 deg C and lead lag compressor control are provided along with current limiting or demand function and alarm and predictive maintenance history. Options available include dual setpoint, DIII Net connection for use with Daikin I-manager and remote monitoring via the Daikin Airnet. LON communication to an external BMS system is optional.
The common Daikin control platform opens possibilities for communication with VRV and other Daikin DX products once again affirming Daikin’s future commitment to develop total project solutions.
