Greece's lagest shopping mall cooled by Daikin VRV

The Maroussi Commercial and Leisure Centre is named after the upmarket area of Athens in which it is located and is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
The 185,000 m² building – of which 90,000 m² is underground – represents a 400 million euro investment and includes parking for 2,000 vehicles.

Something new for Greece
While a shopping mall would not be considered something new in most countries, a mall of this size has been impossible until now in Greece. Behind this lies the fact that shopping malls – as opponents like to repeat – are not part of the Greek mentality. Project developer Lamda, however, got off to a head start. Part of the complex was used for the Olympic Village, including the journalist residences that were already equipped with Daikin RMX units.
Something for everyone
The shopping and leisure complex will house over two hundred shops. Known participants already include Champion Marinopoulos, Glou, Marks and Spencer, Zara, Dixons, Fnac, Multirama, Village Cinemas, Clarks, Laura Ashley, Quicksilver, Timberland, Eurobank, Calvin Klein as well as many other international and Greek brands. The mall will differentiate itself from other complexes with an entertainment centre, play areas, parking, its size and the fact that it represents one-stop shopping comfort in an ideal climate.
A hard-won contract
The contract to supply the climate control for the mall was the result of very hard work on the part of the Daikin master dealer in cooperation with Daikin Europe and its Greek office. In the end, Lamda awarded the contract for 390 VRV units to Daikin for its well-known quality, its long experience in variable refrigerant volume technology, a competitive price and the ability of the master dealer to handle the project. The order which was also extended for additional spaces in the mall, represents the largest project ever realised in Greece by Daikin. The construction project is in its final stages and is scheduled to open in November 2005.
