CEO Inoue Appointed Honorary Consul of Belgium
Daikin Industries, Ltd. (24/11/2005)
Noriyuki Inoue, CEO of Daikin Industries, Ltd. (DIL), assumed the position of Honorary Consul of Belgium in Osaka from November 1st, following a request from the Belgian government. In conjunction with this, Belgium has opened an honorary consulate in the DIL head office.
The Belgian government’s appointment of CEO Inoue as Honorary Consul comes after the closure of the Belgium Consulate General in July 2004. The selection of CEO Inoue reflects DIL’s position as one of the largest Japanese companies to have set up operations in Belgium. It also reflects Mr. Inoue’s long-term role as a bridge between the two countries and his profile as one of the most well-known business executives in Japan’s Kansai region.
Daikin Europe N.V. (DENV), headquartered in Belgium, has a history of 30 years in the country. Belgium’s selection of a top executive from DENV’s parent company DIL as an honorary consul and also its opening of a consulate on DIL premises is expected to have a positive impact on Daikin’s global business. Daikin is anticipating a boost to both its corporate image and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities.
In its role as the institution representing the Belgian government in the Osaka region, the honorary consulate will be responsible for receiving state visitors from Belgium, delivering relevant information to Belgians in Osaka and serving as the local face of the Embassy of Belgium (in Tokyo). CEO Inoue now holds the prestigious offices of both Honorary Consul of Belgium and Honorary Consul General of New Zealand.
