Daikin establishes Moscow Representative Office

On May 1, 2005, Daikin Industries Ltd., with headquarters in Osaka, Japan, established a Representative Office in Moscow, under the management of Daikin Europe NV.
Russian Air Conditioning Market booming
The Moscow Representative Office will allow Daikin to shift from a sales system based wholly on independant distributors to one that incorporates its own marketing initiatives, strengthening both support for distributors and its market research efforts.
Russia is the fifth largest air conditioning market in Europe and has been growing steadily despite unusually cool summers in 2003 and 2004. Russia itself constitutes the fourth largest market in Europe for residential-use room air conditioners. Daikin believes that this market will continue to grow significantly. In addition, given the burgeoning construction of hotels, offices, shops and other buildings in big cities as well as the massive urban development projects underway, demand for commercial-use air conditioners (multi air conditioners for commercial buildings)—one of Daikin’s strengths—is also expected to grow. Overall, Daikin believes that the Russian air conditioning market will expand dramatically.
While sales of commercial-use air conditioners (multi air conditioners for commercial buildings)—Daikin’s mainstay product range—are growing steadily, there is still room for increasing market share in the residential-use room air conditioner market, which is the largest air conditioning market in Russia. In light of this, Daikin has set up the Moscow Representative Office to strengthen sales support to distributors and aggressively expand business in Russia.

Daikin Europe NV, located in Ostend, Belgium, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd. It was established in March of 1972 and is responsible for production and sales for Europe and parts of Africa and the Middle East. It employs around 1,700 persons, and for fiscal year 2004 (April 2003-March 2004) realised sales of approximately 152 billion yen (1.1 billion euro). Share capital is estimated at approximately 4 billion yen (30 million euro).
